SUMMARY

Kakamas Hydro Electric Power (KHEP) was established to develop, own, construct, finance and manage a 10MW hydro-electric project near Kakamas in the Northern Cape

The project reached Financial Close mid 2013 under Round 2 of the South African government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

KHEP has a 12 MW installed capacity comprising 3 x 4MW horizontal Kaplan turbines, while a 1.4 km open canal conveys water from Neusberg weir to the power house.
