SUMMARY

REISA is the largest solar PV project awarded in Round 1 of the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and the power plant consists of over 300,000 solar modules which will provide clean power to thousands of South African homes. REISA generates and supply renewable energy to the national grid clean, under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Eskom (South Africa’s state-owned electricity company).

REISA commenced construction in November 2012 and commenced commercial operations in August 2014.

Beyond its contribution to sustainable and environmentally friendly electricity generation, REISA has and will continue to bring job creation and socio-economic development to the local communities within which it operates.

Direct funding from the REISA solar PV project has provided a solar-powered street light initiative, improvements and practitioner training to early childhood development centres in the area as well as scholarships.  In addition, direct funding has been provided to any local business enterprises to help nurture the local economy and create jobs in the region.
